League Volunteers Collaborate on Voter Registration Events Across the State

Augusta - The League of Women Voters of Maine will join with the League of Women Voters of the United States, hundreds of sister state and local Leagues and thousands of businesses, organizations, election officials, schools and civic groups from across the country to celebrate National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) -- Tuesday, September 27. National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) is dedicated to ensuring every American is registered to vote at their current address in time for the next election.

Here in Maine, the League of Women Voters of Maine is participating in more than 30 voter registration events across the state on and around September 27th in celebration of this national day dedicated to getting Americans to register to vote in the 2016 elections.

"Democracy works best when everyone has a voice," said Jill Ward, President of the League of Women Voters of Maine, "and that's what National Voter Registration Day is all about. Although Maine has some of the best voting laws in the country, including same-day voter registration, we are excited to have the opportunity to contribute to this national effort and to make sure everyone in Maine has the information they need to engage in the political process."
