Maine needs online voter registration

Before this legislative session even started, we've been on the mission to pass one of the most important voting rights bills: online voter registration (OVR).

The public hearing for the online registration bill (also known as LD 1126) was just announced for Monday, April 5 at 10:00 AM. During that hearing, Mainers will offer testimony and input on what they think about LD 1126.

Online voter registration is a safe, efficient, and convenient way for eligible individuals to register to vote. It’s time for Maine to join the 40 other states that offer online voter registration, but we need your help to make this a reality.

Together, we can make a difference:

Contact your legislators: Use our form to contact your legislators and urge them to support online voter registration. It's quick. It's easy. It'll only take a few minutes.

Testify at the public hearing: Testifying is an important way for the committee to know that Mainers care about online voter registration. For tips on writing and presenting testimony, contact Will Hayward at will@lwvme.org. If you're already a pro at writing your own statements, you can submit testimony here.

Phonebank with us: On Thursday, March 25, we'll be calling people within the League community, encouraging them to contact their lawmakers about OVR. Don't worry about scrambling to find the right words to say — we'll provide you with a script and all the info you'll need. Sign up here.

Thank you for helping to make online voter registration a reality in Maine. With your help, we can continue to keep Maine’s elections modern and accessible.
