October 4-8 is National Voter Education Week. Voters, especially new voters, should have the tools, information, and confidence they need to cast their ballots. And with the November 2 election just around the corner, now is the time to check up on your voting status, request an absentee ballot, and lookup what's on your ballot through Vote411.org

NEWS:

The final redistricting update: Well, that's that. The Apportionment Commission has concluded its work. The Commission's consensus maps were submitted last week to the Legislature, which promptly voted to approve them. Maps have now been signed into law by Governor Mills.

We've loaded up the final maps from shapefiles to make them easier to read:

WHAT THE LEAGUE IS WORKING ON:

RCV could become a reality in Westbrook: Westbrook voters have an important referendum question on their local ballot for the November 2 election. The question will ask them to vote on whether or not to implement Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) for city elections. If the measure passes, the City Charter will be amended, and RCV will be used for Mayoral, City Council, and School Committee races. To help spread the word and register new voters, we're canvassing throughout Westbrook. See our events calendar.

Election observers needed for November 2: In the last few elections, the League has sent out observers to watch democracy in action. If you have a few hours available on Election Day, November 2, you can be part of our nonpartisan Observer Corps. League volunteers will monitor and report on voting at polling places. We'll train you! If interested, reach out to Will at will@lwvme.org

We said we'd be back — no more excuses: We're calling yet again on President Biden to get the Senate to either fix or NIX the filibuster and PASS the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. LWVUS will livestream the rally on Facebook. Tune in on October 5, from 9:30 AM - noon.
