The Legislature picks up again on January 3, and there's no better time to join our activism and advocacy. Legislators are starting to think about their work in the new year, and now is an excellent time to reach out to them and demand action on major issues, like National Popular Vote and gun safety legislation.

Who's my legislator? Sometimes we forget the names of our elected officials. No shame there. Use the Maine Voter Lookup Service to find all the names and contact information for your people. 

Where do our bills go? The bills that the League works on appear before the State and Local Government (SLG) and Veterans and Legal Affairs (VLA) Committees. National Popular Vote

A National Popular Vote (NPV) bill, LD 1578, was introduced in this legislative session but was carried over into 2024. We'll fight for it then, but in the meantime, now is the time to contact your legislator. Tell them you expect them to support and pass NPV in 2024. Contact your legislator now!

Common Sense Gun Reform

The League of Women Voters of Maine condemns gun violence, and this letter urges your Maine legislators to consider gun safety legislation in 2024. Contact your legislator now! We're also hosting a collective action night this Wednesday, December 13. Learn more + register here.
 
 
Adikhadar Shire and Tobin Williamson: Lewiston needs ranked-choice voting The Dec. 12 runoff will feature lower turnout than November, a drawn-out election season, and the risk of possible inclement winter weather.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, Lewiston voters will go to the polls to vote in the runoff election for the mayoral race. This runoff will feature lower turnout than November, a drawn-out election season, and the risk of possible inclement winter weather.

We don’t have to run our elections like this. Lewiston should adopt ranked-choice voting for the mayor and City Council, so voters can elect majority winners when they go to the polls in November. Read more here.
