We're taking a moment of rest during the holidays, and we hope that you will, too. The 132nd Legislature has begun, but not much has happened yet. Legislators were sworn in and received their committee assignments. Folks will enjoy the holidays before things kick off in 2025.

Cloture is set for January 10, the deadline for submitting bills for consideration, and legislative action will pick up at full speed after then. Here are some important links that you'll want to bookmark for future use:

Help, how does a bill become real law? It's a new legislative session here in Maine, which means some of us may need a refresher on how a bill becomes reality. We've got you covered. Click here to read the quick version.

Where do our bills go? The bills that the League works on appear before the State and Local Government (SLG) and Veterans and Legal Affairs (VLA) Committees. If you read Under the Dome often, you'll be familiar with the SLG and VLA acronyms. Would you like to see which legislators are on these committees? Check them out here: SLG and VLA.

Where can I see the bills? When you want to look up a bill, you can use this search feature. The League also provides bill tracking on our website, but only for bills specific to our priority areas.

Needed: Advocacy Bill Tracker Volunteer

Expected Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

Our advocacy work is gearing up for 2025, and the bill tracker serves as the backbone of our advocacy committee. Our volunteer data champ will follow the bills throughout the session and plug them into our spreadsheet tracker. The spreadsheet tracks the status of the bills we watch, follow, and testify on. This work is vital for our advocacy team, and any volunteer will leave the session a policy and legislature expert. If you're a nerd for spreadsheets and like a hands-on task, this role is for you. We will train you! Must be familiar with google sheets.
