Our Advocacy Committee met after a brief summer hiatus, and we're considering which bills we want to pursue in the 2022 session. Cloture is September 24 — that’s the deadline for submitting new bills to be considered in the second session. After such a successful 2021 session, we're buzzing with excitement for what comes next. 

It may seem like all's quiet in Maine, but legislators are already thinking about bills for the next session in 2022. And so are we. Cloture is September 24 — that’s the deadline for submitting new bills to be considered in the second session next year.

It’s time to celebrate. We just had one of our most successful legislative sessions. Almost all of our priority bills have been signed into law or are sitting on the Governor’s desk waiting to be signed. Thank you to our League artillery who contacted their legislators or who volunteered on our Advocacy Committee. 

On Friday, Gov. Janet Mills signed the fourth of four democracy reform and modernization bills into law, making permanent policies that were put into place for the 2020 election and taking additional steps to modernize elections in the state. 

Happy early July 4th! We'll celebrate our legislators standing up for their constituents, voting for democracy reform, expanding voting rights, and to put it simply, choosing to do what's right.
